8 year 3 and 4 children attended the Plastic Clever Conference at City Hall in Leicester. Stokes Wood is a Plastic Clever school and is working towards reducing the use of single use plastics.
The children realised that at school lunchtime, numerous plastic yogurt pots, fruit, jelly, whip and ice cream pots that could be recycled are being thrown into general waste.
We will be using bowls for whip, fruit and jelly and we now have separate bins so we can recycle the yogurt and ice cream pots. The children also ask children who bring packed lunches to use less cling film and disposable packaging.
Tony came up with the idea of running a competition: SAY NO TO PLASTIC
Make a poster to persuade others to use less single use plastics ( cling film and other plastic packaging and containers that end up in the ground, rivers and seas). The poster could have actual examples of single use plastics. It can be a collage type poster or a 3D model with a persuasive message. Children can make the competition entry together with their parents.
The closing date for entries will be Friday 26th May and winners will be announced after half term.
