Our Eco Ambassadors After School Club met with Mrs Janes to discuss her role in saving energy. I've attached picture of the Q&A session as well as a copy of the questions.
We found out that the electrical items in the kitchen that get used every day are the toaster, hot unit, dish washer, extraction fan and lights. These items are used throughout the day for Breakfast Club and Lunch.
The hot unit must be turned on atleast 30 minutes before the food goes in, to make sure it is up to the correct temperature. The dish washer also needs time to warm up so is turned on 30 minutes before being used.
The electrical appliances are turned off immediately after use to save energy but also on a safety element so that everything has enough time to cool down before being left unattended.
The school fridge is emptied at the end of the school term, any products that need refridgeration are put in to the staff kitchen fridge, and the hall kitchen fridge is switched off, cleaned out and left open.
The kitchen lights and extraction fan are automatic so turn on when you enter the kitchen and will turn off after the room has been left vacant for approx 5 minutes or longer.
