Overview
Develop and implement a reward system to highlight positive energy efficiency behaviour throughout the school.
Consider involving your pupils with daily monitoring of:
- Classroom temperatures - are they within the agreed range?
- Lights and electrical items - are they being turned off at lunch and during break time?
- Outside doors and windows - are they being closed during cold weather?
Give points or other rewards to the classes or departments that:
- Keep their radiator thermostats within an agreed range
- Always switch off lights and appliances when not in use
- Keep their doors and windows closed when the heating is on
Celebrate and reward the classes or departments that perform best. Secondary schools could consider rewarding the department that saves the most energy with an extra budget allocation for new equipment or books.
